Ravalli Head Start Education Assistant


This position assists Ravalli Head Start’s Education & Disabilities Manager to meet program requirements and provide necessary supports in the education and disability services.  


  1. 1. Must maintain confidentiality.  Use discretion and confidentiality with matters

  2. of families and program as appropriate (Any misuse of confidential information may be basis for disciplinary action).

  3. 2. Establish and maintain a relationship of trust with Head Start staff, families and children.

  4. Establish and maintain professional boundaries with parents when handling program and personal issues.

  5. Communication techniques and expectations:

  7. Use appropriate channels and staff to problem-solve and refer families.

  8. Meet problem situations with understanding and diplomacy.

  9. Use a professional attitude and approach to working with supervisor, co-workers, RHS families, and community volunteers.

  10. Participate and promote a positive working relationship with all staff, Head Start families and Head Start children.


1.    Supervised by the RHS EDM

2.    Works in collaboration with RHS EDM and Classroom Teachers

3.    Works closely with other RHS Staff

4.    Has frequent contact with staff, children, parents, and community partners


  1. Ability to work with cleaning/sanitizing chemicals and equipment

  2. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  3. Sufficient mobility and strength to repeatedly sit, stand, carry infant/toddlers, balance, stoop, walk, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl and have full range of body motion

  4. Clear vision for close tasks such as working with computers, keyboards, screens, and paper documents

  5. Sufficient manual dexterity and eye hand coordination to perform job duties

  6. The position is within a business office and child care setting with computers, printers, miscellaneous office equipment and varying noise levels.

  7. Have reliable transportation to ensure consistent attendance.

  8. May be required to work outside of regular business hours as necessary and to meet the needs of individual families.


High School Diploma or equivalency is required. Combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.


  1. Attend in-service training as scheduled.

  2. Obtain First Aid and CPR certification during probationary period and keep current.

  3. Obtain knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to child abuse and neglect and abide by reporting standards.


  1. Must have a valid Montana Driver’s License, an acceptable driving record, and proof of auto insurance.

  2. Must have a telephone or other means of immediate communication.

  3. Early childhood experience and competency with basic computer skills is required.


  1. Assist in ordering classroom supplies, as needed upon approval.

  2. Assist with maintenance of playground, as needed.

  3. Work with classroom volunteers & education enrichment programs, as assigned.

  4. Assist with training supports for education staff.

  5. Establish a relationship of trust with the staff and families.

  6. Assist with field trips as needed.

  7. Assist with unloading and loading bus, as assigned.

  8. Assist RHS EDM and teachers with preparation of materials.

  9. Provide technical support for RHS EDM, classroom teachers and coach as needed:

  10. Assist with preparation of meetings, as assigned.

  11. Attend scheduled staff and component meetings, as required.

  12. Assist with developmental screenings, as assigned.

  13. Assist in classroom, as needed.

  14. Assist in maintaining tracking systems to support education services, as required.

  15. Assist with coaching preparations, as assigned.

  16. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


  1. Maintain monthly calendars for teaching staff.

  2. Maintain program documentation as required.

  3. Maintain updated Childplus documentation.

  4. Notify RHS EDM of education supplies needed.

  5. Submit bi-monthly time sheets and claim forms in a timely manner.


  1. Must attend and actively participate in required meetings, workshops, trainings, in-service trainings, committees, etc.

  2. Initiate and assume responsibility for own learning to keep current of job related issues and best practices.

  3. Seek training and/or assistance to implement improvements when needed.

  4. Support all program activities, know and promote the goals and objectives of Ravalli Head Start Inc. 

  5. Be familiar with and adhere to the Performance Standards.

  6. Be familiar with and adhere to Program Policies and Procedures.

  7. Cooperate with co-workers and respect their opinions and contributions. 

  8. Share materials and ideas readily with co-workers.

  12. To ensure continuity of care and in respect for co-workers, consistent attendance is required.

Job Type: Part-Time

Pay: $12.43 per hour
