Assistant Teacher (Pre-K)

JOB SUMMARY:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position assists the teacher in the development, implementation and supervision of all curricula/classroom activities. This position is responsible for helping maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. This position assists the teacher in completion of comprehensive child assessments.

Planning & Implementation

  • Assist the teacher with supervision of all classroom and outdoor activities.

  • Participate in the screening and ongoing assessment of children.

  • Assist the teacher with the development and implementation of each child’s individualized program.

  • Assist with planning, implementation and evaluation of daily lesson plans.

  • Help prepare and maintain classroom environment for daily activities in compliance with curriculum requirements.

  • Assist teacher with parent teacher conferences and home visits.

  • Provide a positive and consistent climate that supports learning and development.

  • Utilize positive child guidance methods in compliance with curriculum requirements.

  • Provide a supportive and relaxed climate at mealtime and model and encourage good nutrition and proper social skills.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality to protect the privacy of enrolled children and families.

  • Work collaboratively with the teacher and other Head Start staff to meet the needs of each child.

  • Sanitize classroom materials as required and complete sanitation and safety checklists.

  • Ride school bus, as assigned, in the absence of paid bus monitors.

  • Conduct Program Documentation, as required.

  • Attend in-service training and monthly staff meetings.

Parent Involvement Responsibilities

  • Involve families in the curriculum and activities the program offers.

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with enrolled families.

Professionalism and Workplace Conduct

  • Initiate and assume responsibility for own learning to keep current of job related issues and best practices. Seek training and/or assistance to implement improvements when needed.

  • Support all program activities, know and promote the goals and objectives of Ravalli Head Start, Inc. Be completely familiar with and adhere to the Head Start Performance Standards and Work Plans.

  • Be familiar with and adhere to Program Policies and Procedures.

  • Cooperate with co-workers and respect their opinions and contributions.

  • Work together with your teaching team member to plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans, to prepare and maintain the classroom environment, and to assess children’s growth and development.

  • Use a professional attitude and approach to working with families, co-workers and community volunteers.

  • Be prepared and punctual for meetings and work.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or Preschool CDA is preferred.

  • Experience working with preschool age children in an educational setting.

  • High School Diploma or GED​

  • Some knowledge of child development and best practices in Early Childhood Education.

  • Ability to follow program confidentiality policies concerning information about children and families.

  • Ability to respect and promote the unique identity of each child and family.

  • Ability to be responsive to the needs of children.

  • Reliable, responsible, and conscientious

  • Able to work well with a wide variety of people in a positive, nondiscriminatory and non-judgmental manner.

  • Ability to accept direction and work collaboratively as a team member.

  • Must obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Must obtain knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to child abuse and neglect.

  • Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.

  • Sufficient mobility and strength to repeatedly stoop, stand, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, and have full range of body motion;

  • Sufficient vision and hearing to perform job duties;

  • Sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform job duties;

  • Have clear vision for close tasks such as working with computers. Keyboards/screens and paper documents.

40 Hours a week – 10 months a year

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $11.13 - $13.21 per hour
